I love this smoothie! I actually created it myself. A big advantage of smoothies is that we can take them with us and sip on them while on the run. They can be very convenient, and easy to prepare.
I use pure soybeans to make this smoothie. Many of the the protein powders I see at the markets contain sugars and chemicals. I am not too crazy about those. I like to avoid anything processed as much as I can, and this smoothie is perfect. Soybeans are a complete protein with-out the added sugar and chemicals. I purchase them from either the grocery store if they have them, or if not, Amazon. My current favorite soybeans from Amazon are Laura Soybeans. They are affordable and easy. They are are cleaned and made for
using in recipes. They come in 5lb. bags and last for months. Perhaps even a year or more.
The soybeans do need to be soaked. Many times I soak them over night in the refrigerator which works nicely. Soak one cup soy beans to one 1 1/2 cup of water. They will keep for several days. One container will usually last a week or so.
Recently I learned of an alternative that I tried. I put one cup of soybeans in a crock pot with 3 cups of water for 4 hours on high. That softens them and makes them better tasting in the smoothies. After taking them from the crock pot, I let them cool, put them in a rubbermaid container, add a cup of water and let them soak in the refrigerator. They too will keep for at least a week or more.
Below are the ingredients: I use 1/3 cup increments because they fit easily into the smoothie blender. Any blender will do, but I have been using a Bopbabies that I purchased on Amazon. It works perfectly.
- 1/3 cup soaked soybeans
- 1/3 cup frozen fruit medley. (Strawberries, rasberries, blackberries)
- 1/3 cup kefir. (optional, but kefir contains probiotics which are wonderful for the digestive tract, and it adds a tangy delicious flavor.) If you don’t use kefir, increase the almond or soy milk to 2/3 cup.
- 1/3 cup almond or soy milk.
- 1/2 medium sized banana, sliced. (The banana also adds a delicious flavor and body.
- Put the ingredients into the blender.
- Blend for perhaps 1/ 1/2 minutes or so.
- Vuala!! It is great! And it is packed with nutrients to help us start our day.
- You can also alter the ingredients if you want to add a few more soybeans, kiwi, or any fruit you may like.
- Many times I add 1 tbsp of flaxseed. It is also wonderful for digestion.
